I finally finished my Halloween/Dia del los Muertos (Day of the Dead) decorating. Actually this is my first year celebrating Day of the Dead. I'm Mexican, and my parents never celebrated this holiday. We always celebrated Halloween. I think it's a nice way to remember our loved ones who have passed on and I also like that it's a colorful celebration. I'm not really into the whole black and orange Halloween theme, although I do have a few little Halloween decorations around the house, because after all we will be celebrating that too.
I actually didn't think I was going to put up any decorations for day of the dead, but I did last minute. I was able to find a little store near my area that carries day of the dead decorations and I bought the skull, and some sugar skulls that I will put out on November 2ND the actual day we celebrate it. I just didn't like the colors of the paper garlands they had. Traditionally they use bright colors, but I wanted to change it up bit using some neutral colors. So I went around looking for tutorials and found this easy paper garland tutorial. I also made the paper flowers. Overall the colors go well in my living room and even the girls, and Andrew liked my altar.

The picture is Andrew's dad who passed away many years ago. It's one of my favorite family pictures.

I love it, simple yet beautiful, I'm not a big fan of the orange and black either, the kids learn about different cultures when we celebrate other traditions and I love that.
Oh, I love this, and the colors! I find Day of the Dead fascinating and hadn't really known much about it until recently!
